The EcoLiving Centre Project will relocate and retrofit an existing house, for use as a demonstration model showcasing the latest in sustainable living products for waste, water, energy management and biodiversity in the West.
The EcoLiving Centre will develop programs and projects that implement Victoria-wide sustainability learning and change initiatives.
The EcoLiving Centre is a partnership between Victoria University, Brimbank Council, City West Water, Friends of Iramoo, St Albans Community Centre, and other key community partners.
A two stage strategy has been identified for development of the Iramoo EcoLiving Centre.
Stage 1 will formulate & develop a management structure for the EcoLiving Centre, develop conceptual plans & lay out the detailed construction plan.
Stage 2 will develop detailed site plans & concept development; identify a suitable house for relocation; as well as develop processes for extending/building & piloting sustainability learning & training programs and projects, as EcoLiving Centre construction gets under way.
The Iramoo Community EcoLiving Centre will draw on and extend the existing Iramoo facilities at St Albans, including Iramoo's Native Plant Nursery, Education Discovery Centre, Green Lab, Waterwise Gardens, Seed Orchard, Education Trail, Greywater treatment ponds, Composting & Recycling, Moondani Balluk Indigenous Academic Unit programs, linking with the Sunshine SmartHouse at Sunshine Further Education campus of VU.
The new Eco-Living Centre will operate as a sustainable community centre, meeting, place, learning space and practical workshop venue for grous engaged in environmentally and socially sustainable living.
